The Senate's Sub-Committee on Finance, Revenues and Economic Affairs on Wednesday recommended strict action against those involved in the embezzlement of public funds. The committee, which met here with Senator Ishaq Dar in the chair, discussed the alleged mismanagement in Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP).
The committee observed that the recovery of the public funds was not sufficient and asked that culprits should be penalised to overcome such issues and ensure transparent use of public money. The committee also recommended that anonymous complaints be taken serious besides making the internal-audit system transparent for the development and promotion of national institutions.
The meeting also suggested to strengthen and enhance the role of Auditor General of Pakistan to make public accounts transparent and asked for random checking to promote the culture of accountability in national institutions. The meeting observed that regulatory bodies in the country should not be restricted to only impose fine but they should also work for the regulation and promotion of institutions in the country. The committee also recommended transparent audit of Rs 8.6 million financial mismanagement in the CCP to avoid such practices in future.
The final recommendation of the Sub-Committee would be submitted to the Senate Standing Committee. The Additional Secretary Ministry of Finance told the committee that financial mismanagement in the CCP was identified and money was recovered besides dismissal of the person involved in it. Senators Professor Khurshid Ahmad, Dr Safdar Ali Abbasi and Haroon Khan attend the meeting.
