Three US senators, John McCain, Mark Kirk and Joe Lieberman in a joint statement on January 5, 2012 stated: "We urge Pakistan authorities to resolve this matter swiftly and consistent with civilian rule of law and to prevent the judicial commission investigating Ambassador Haqqani from becoming a political tool for revenge against an honourable man."
The people of Pakistan would like tell the three honourable senators that we are surprised at their concern for Haqqani and that their statement is totally inappropriate, uncalled for, amounts to interference in due civilian judicial process and is gross interference in Pakistan's internal affairs.
Honourable senators as members of the Senate of USA should know that the Supreme Court of Pakistan is constitutionally established, it is composed of only civilian judges and the Judicial Commission investigating the matter is composed of the Chief Justice of Balochistan High Court, the Chief Justice of Sindh High Court and the Chief Justice of Islamabad High Court and its investigation is totally transparent.
The Government of Pakistan that is "Pakistan Authorities" referred to by the Honourable Senators has no authority or jurisdiction on our Supreme Court therefore any action by "Pakistan Authorities" as suggested by the Honourable Senators will be illegal, unconstitutional and interference in due process of law.
The people of Pakistan would also like to know the basis of the Honourable Senators statement. Do they know some actual facts of this matter and are they privy to some confidential information or were they involved in some manner in the preparation and/or the transmission of the memo to General Mullen if so then they must for sake of truth, honesty and justice divulge it?
It is acts like this joint statement of the Honourable Senators, which instead of improving have an adverse effect on our relations with US and increase the anti-US sentiments in the people of Pakistan. It therefore makes one wonder if this joint statement was a deliberate attempt to further sour our already tense relations with US?
