The killing of a student, Altaf Ahmad Sood in firing by Indian troops, continued to evoke strong condemnations in occupied Kashmir, KMS reported on Thursday.
Denouncing the killing, the Jamaat-e-Islami occupied Kashmir in a statement said: "At the time of the start of the construction work on the Uri power project, the people of the area were promised an uninterrupted power supply but soon after the completion of the project the authorities backed out of their commitment."
The Jamaat spokesman said when the people protested against the breach of promise, they were greeted with bullets. India is exploiting the water resources but only a negligible share of generated power is supplied to the Kashmiri people, the spokesman added. He expressed solidarity with the bereaved family and prayed for early recovery of those injured in the firing incident.
The Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front-R Chairman, Farooq Ahmad Dar, strongly condemned the killing and termed it an inhuman act. Condemning the killing, the General Secretary of Peoples Freedom League, Muhammad Rafiq Ganai paid tributes to Shaheed Altaf and expressed sympathies with the bereaved family.
The International Forum for Justice and Human Rights Forum Jammu and Kashmir said, "It is unfortunate that like 2010, year 2012 started with the unprovoked firing at Boniyar, which resulted in the killing of an innocent student and injuries to other two persons."
