The Provincial (Sindh) Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has refused to endorse the initial Pakistan-United Nations 2011 flood damage assessment report following the launch of the report by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) during a press conference.
Well-placed sources told Business Recorder here on Monday that in November 2011, a meeting was chaired by NDMA which was attended by the provincial governments of Sindh and Balochistan. During the meeting, Pakistan-UN Assessment report was shared with the provincial governments and it was decided that they would review the data within the next 8-10 days.
Sources in NDMA revealed that a green signal was also received from the provincial governments before the Authority shared the contents of the report with the media. However the Sindh government refuses to endorse the report and maintains that the data available on the website of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) should be considered accurate. The World Bank and Asian Development Bank Damage Needs Assessment (DNAS) report is likely to be launched next week, sources added.
