A significant number of rain victims, that hit Sindh sometime back, continue to suffer from malaria, skin infections, malnutrition and chest infections, said Bilal Maqbool, President, Pakistan Society of Health System Pharmacists (PSHP). Speaking at a ceremony on Monday he said ENT infections and urinary tract infections are also commonly registered among the people forced to bear the brunt of torrential rains.
The ceremony was organised to honour volunteers who rendered their services in emergency relief camps set-up in affected areas of the province. PSHP President, Ph.M. Bilal Maqbool, who headed the camps in Mirpur Khas and Umerkot, said volunteers as well as government departments must continue to assist the rain victims as many of them in poor health needed adequate assistance and appropriate support for their rehabilitation.
Bilal said service to humanity is the best way to express gratitude to Allah almighty for his blessings. He hailed volunteers and organisation who participated in the relief work and thanked all those who directly or indirectly helped in management of the camps. Bilal Maqbool said camps in Mirpurkhas and Umerkot were established in collaboration with Al-Khair foundation UK and World Health Organisation.
Free medical check-ups were offered to all those who were in need and these included patients with general medial complaints, gynaecological problems and health conditions of paediatric as well as geriatric nature. He said free of cost malarial diagnostic tests coupled with free of cost medicines and needed food supplements were also provided to the identified individuals, including elderly people, women and children.
