Firmness prevailed on the currency market on Saturday as the rupee maintained its overnight level against dollar in process of trading, dealers said. The rupee retained its last levels in relation to dollar for buying and selling at 89.90 and 90.10, they said.
OPEN MARKET RATES: Versus euro the rupee gained modestly by 20 paisa for buying and selling at Rs 115.87 and Rs 116.37, they said.
Reuters adds: On Friday euro capped off the most tumultuous year in its short history slipping to a 10-year trough below 100 yen and struggling to hold gains against dollar, a trend traders expect to continue in 2012. The euro fell 0.9 percent to 99.77 yen and looked set to end the year down more than 8 percent against Japan's currency.

RUPEE IN LAHORE: The rupee gained 10 paisa against dollar in Lahore currency market on Saturday.
According to dealers, the dollar resumed trading at overnight Rs 90.00 and Rs 90.30 as buying and selling rates respectively, but later declined to Rs 89.90 and Rs 90.20 on buying and selling side, respectively.
However, the rupee remained unchanged on buying side while it lost 50 paisa on selling side in relation to pound sterling. The pound was purchased and sold at Rs 139.00 and Rs 140.00 as compared to Friday closing of Rs 139.00 and Rs 139.50, respectively, dealers said.
RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The rupee remained firm against dollar at the currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi on Saturday.
The dollar opened at Rs 89 (buying) and Rs 89.20 (selling) against same last rates. It did not observe further change in the second session and closed at Rs 89 (buying) and Rs 89.20 (selling).
Pound sterling opened at Rs 138 (buying) and Rs 138.90 (selling) against same last rates. It did not observe further change in the evening session and closed at Rs 138 (buying) and Rs 138.90 (selling).
