Punjab Assembly on Wednesday passed Punjab Local Government (Second Amendment) Bill. The bill was moved by Law Minister Rana Sanaullah in the house. Earlier, the Bill was referred to Standing Committee on Local Government and Rural Development on December 14, 2011.
After detailed discussion on the aims and objects and clauses of the bill, the committee unanimously decided to recommend that the bill might be passed by the Assembly subject to amendments. On the occasion 'The Punjab Environmental Protection (Amendment) Bill 2011 was laid down in the House.
Report on biannual monitoring on the implementation of 7th NFC Award (July-December 2010) was also laid in the House on the occasion. During the session, Engineer Salim Shahzad MPA on a point of order pointed out that parking plaza was built on a piece of land in Liberty area of Gulberg. He said there was a controversy over the piece of land as it belonged to Church and according to relevant laws Church land could not be sold or purchased. PPP MPA Pervaiz Rafiq PPP endorsed his point of order.
Provincial Minister for Prisons Iqbal Chunnar while answering queries regarding prisons said that in fiscal year 2008 a total Rs 32,97,059 were allocated for treatment of prisoners languishing in Camp Jail Lahore. He added that during the same year as many as 3,05,935 prisoners of the jail were given medical treatment. To a query of MPA Khadija Umar, the minister informed the house that there was no Burn Centre in the 32 jails of Punjab. To a question prison minister dilated that there was an eight-bed hospital in Gujraat Jail.
