As many as 520 Indian fishermen are languishing in District Jail Malir of whom cases of 261 prisoners are pending in courts while 259 have completed the sentences, their papers have been checked and verified but they were still in prison because of inactiveness of governments of Pakistan and India, Haq Nawaz Akhtar, Chairman and Haider Ali Haider, General Secretary of NGO Saiban International Welfare Organisation said.
In a statement on Sunday, they said citizens of two countries being held in respective jails were in such a critical condition that they need full attention on humanitarian grounds. They requested governments of both the countries to take immediate steps for releasing all those including Professor Khalil Chishti of Pakistan and Indian prisoners held here. They requested prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani to call for a detailed list of Pakistanis held in Indian jails.
