Despite the authorities' claims of making Kashmir disease free and providing medical facilities in every nook and corner of the territory, Khag Tehsil in Budgam district in the Valley has been deprived of a sub-district hospital in Indian Occupied Kashmir.
Presently, Khag is having a redundant primary health center where there are only seven doctors to look after sixty adjoining villages comprising a population of more than one lac, KMS reported. From past many years, people of Khag and adjoining villages like Budan, Dalwash, Gund Dalwash, Hamchipora and Drung have been demanding a sub-district hospital as the primary health center is lacking all the adequate facilities.
Even for minor injuries, people have to move to occupied Srinagar for treatment, which is creating a lot of inconvenience for the people of the area."Authorities seem to be ignoring us. We are suffering a lot. The primary health center is lacking all the basic facilities, which is compelling us to move to other hospitals of occupied Srinagar," said Javid Ahmad, a resident.
"Khag is a hilly area and most of the population lives below poverty line. If all the facilities were available here then there was no need to move to other hospitals of the valley. People have to spend 2000 to 3000 rupees on travelling occupied Srinagar and for poor it is a burden. This is the reason that many patients have died because their families could not afford such money," said a group of inhabitants.
