The rupee fell in relation to dollar on the currency market on Thursday, dealers said. The rupee dropped by 15 paisa in relation to dollar for buying at 87.65 and lost 13 paisa for selling at 87.67, they said.
INTERBANK MARKET RATES: In the fourth Asian trade euro stayed near seven-week lows against dollar, having suffered a steep fall after a "disastrous" German bond sale fuelled fears the region's debt crisis was beginning to threaten even Europe's biggest economy.
Although euro bounced back slightly in Asia on short-covering, bringing other risk currencies higher with it, market players see the currency staying under pressure as tensions in the currency bloc showed no sign of abating. The dollar was trading versus the Indian rupee at Rs 52.15, the US currency was 3.1850 against the Malaysian ringgit and the greenback was at 6.3635 in terms of the Chinese yuan.
OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee extended its fall against dollar, slipping 20 paisa for buying and selling at Rs at 87.60 and 87.80, they said. The rupee continued its rise versus euro, gaining 63 paisa for buying and selling at Rs 116.73 and Rs 117.23, they said.
