At least 14 eunuchs died and 40 others were injured when a major fire swept through a community hall in east Delhi on Sunday, the Press Trust of India and local media reported. The blaze happened around 7:00 pm (1430 GMT) as more than 100 members of the transgender community gathered for a prayer ceremony in the Indian capital, PTI said, citing police and hospital authorities.
PTI reported that the fire started in the kitchen before spreading throughout the building, trapping people as they tried to flee. The incident, which was believed to have been caused by a short circuit, happened on the final day of a three-day festival. India's government ordered an immediate investigation into the fire, PTI said.
