Rehman rules out treason case against Haqqani

Interior Minister Rehman Malik on Saturday ruled out treason case against Pakistan's Ambassador to Washington Husain Haqqani, saying that, if required, the matter of the 'memo' would be open for investigation. Talking to reporters after attending a function in connection with Sindh Cultural Day here, he said that Haqqani has been summoned to Islamabad to explain the matter which, he said, was between the ambassador and a US citizen, Mansoor Ijaz.
"There is no question of pursuing an immediate case against Husain Haqqani", Rehman said, adding that "only an exchange of Blackberry messages had surfaced in the case, which would have to be assessed as to who initiated this exchange of messages". He, however, added that there would be investigation if explanation was not 'satisfactory'.
Referring to Benazir's death case, he said that the government was continuing its probe into he incident and all those involved in the conspiracy would be exposed. He claimed that key accused in the case of BB have been arrested with credible evidence, and added that "it is also known that the conspiracy was hatched at an office nothing to do with public sector and the venue, along with the place where the terrorists changed their clothes".
Apart from former President Pervez Musharraf, he said, some other persons were also involved in the plot, with evidence. He said that Interpol chief has been approached to bring Musharraf back, and added that the move would bear result very soon. He said that the government was implementing and pursuing all court verdicts and directives in letter and spirit. He said that the government has decided to expose the entire conspiracy behind Benazir's death and that the 'murderers' would be taken to task.
The Interior Minister said that 150 parliamentarians have recently received anonymous threatening messages to resign from their seats, otherwise they would be killed. He said the SMSs were sent to senators and members of the National and provincial assemblies. He said that two accused have been arrested from Larkana with the help of Cyber Crime Wing.
He said that the matter was further being investigated thoroughly and due legal action would be taken against all persons involved. Regarding Mumbai attacks case, he said that Pakistan had written and dispatched a letter to the Indian government regarding a judicial commission. He said the commission would travel to India when the Indian government communicates a response in this regard.
"Almost all legal formalities have been completed and Pakistan is waiting for Indian response to identify the place for holding proceedings of the judicial commission", he added. About Sindh information minister Sharjeel Memon's resignation, he declined to comment, saying that it was a provincial matter, and Chief Minister could comment on the matter.
