Hard red winter wheat basis bids were steady to firmer on Friday as grain dealers looked to pull wheat out of the country ahead of the holidays, but farmers were mostly holding tight to supplies. Basis was up 20 cents a bushel in Wichita, Kansas, a dime a bushel in Goodland, Kansas, and a dime higher in Newton, Kansas.
Protein premiums for railcar wheat to and through Kansas City fell 3 cents a bushel for 12.00 percent protein wheat and also for 12.20-pro wheat, and fell for 4 cents for 12.80-pro and declined 7 cents for 13.00-pro wheat. Kansas City Board of Trade hard red winter wheat futures closed down 20-1/2 cents a bushel at $6.66-1/2 on Thursday. Farmer selling was picking up but still was slow, but narrowing spreads were encouraging movement.
