Taiwan stocks extend losses

Published Updated

Taiwan stocks shed 2.08 percent on Friday, joining a regional slid as Europe's funding difficulties intensified, with plastics counters the biggest losers, tumbling 5.51 percent. Nanya Tech went limit-up, however, after parent group Formosa Plastics Group said it would invest T$30 billion in the struggling DRAM maker.
The main TAIEX index fell 154.03 points to 7,233.78, after opening down 1.24 percent. The electronics sub-index dropped 2.14 percent, with smartphone maker HTC Corp losing 4.21 percent. LCD makers were among the biggest laggards, down 3.93 percent. Financial shares were off 0.22 percent. The Taiwan dollar was flat at T$30.234. Foreign investors were net sellers on Thursday, bringing their total selling to T$20.695 billion this month.
