Punjab Governor, Sardar Latif Khan Khosa has said that the present government has chalked out long and medium term plans to get rid of the ongoing energy crisis. Addressing the award winning ceremony, organised by the Institute of Certified Public Accounts of Pakistan at Lahore Chamber here Tuesday, the governor said the projects to import gas from Iran and Turkmenistan are part of government's efforts, while Iran has laid down gas pipeline up to Pakistan's border.
Moreover, gas has also been explored in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which would help mitigate the shortage problems. Similarly, Diamer Bhasha and Mangla Dam Raising projects have been initiated to overcome electricity shortage, he said. Khosa further said the provinces should initiate their own projects rather than criticising the government.
The provinces, after the 18th constitutional amendment, are fully empowered to launch power generation projects, he said and added the Punjab government receives more than 51 percent subsequently of the NFC Award but it did not add a single unit of electricity. He lauded the accountants' role in the service sector and said that overseas accountants in the Middle East are fetching million of dollar foreign exchange for the country's exchequer.
