City Government Karachi on Monday chalked out security plan in collaboration with religious clerics and law enforcement agencies in view of forthcoming Ashura days. Special control rooms in the Commissioner House and offices of all Deputy Commissioners of Karachi would be set up with the deputation of representatives of essential services providers, police and other law enforcement agencies.
This was decided in meeting held at Commissioner House to discuss the security arrangements for upcoming holy month of Muharram-ul-Haraam. The meeting chaired by Commissioner Karachi Roshan Ali Shaikh was attended among others by Additional I G Ghulam Shabbir Shaikh, Deputy Commissioners of all five districts, Assistant Deputy Commissioners, DIG Traffic, DIG South, DIG East and representatives of Pakistan Rangers, KMC, KWSB, KESC and PTCL.
The meeting decided that all possible facilities would be provided to mourners during the holy month. It urged religious scholars to promote synchronisation and harmony among the people. The meeting also decided that main Ashura Muharram procession will be monitored directly from the Command and Control Room in Civic Center.
During the meeting Commissioner Roshan Ali Shaikh directed KMC and KWSB to ensure immediate repairing and maintenance of street lights and water and sewerage system especially at the routes of Ashura Procession. Commissioner Karachi instructed KMC to remove all encroachments on the route of main Ashura Procession at M A Jinnah Road and Saddar and arrange fumigation in the whole area.
