Under the directives of the Prime Minister, Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) is going to purchase sugar up to 200,000 tons from local mills. A Gallop Tender in this regard has already been issued, which will be opened on Saturday, November 12, 2011.
"The purchase of sugar from the local mills will not only save precious foreign exchange of the country but would help the millers to make timely payments to the sugarcane growers, as well", a TCP press release issued here on Sunday said. Besides, adequate stock of sugar would also become available with the government to meet any emergency situation or shortage of the sweetener in the market, it added.
In pursuance of government directive, the TCP is also importing 700,000 tons urea from world-wide sources to ensure smooth availability of fertilisers for Rabi crop. Out of this, the contracts for 260,000 tons have already been finalised whereas a Gallop Tender for import of balance quantity of 440,000 tons urea will be opened on Thursday, November 10, 2011, immediately after Eid. Arrivals of imported urea in the country will start from the third week of November, 2011.
The offices of TCP at Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad were opened on Sunday November 6, 2011 for sale of Tender documents of both above Tenders of Sugar and Urea.-PR
