Spokesperson of World Health Organisation (WHO), Maryam Younus Saturday said that WHO has distributed 18,320 mosquito nets in the entire flood-hit area to control the spread of malaria. Talking to a private news channel, she said that the WHO works for the general health of the people and the fundamental objective of its presence is to support government of Pakistan at every level.
She said that the floodwater is not draining easily from these areas due to the geographical location of these areas. Therefore, water borne diseases have spread, he added. She further said the WHO provides all the medicines according to the demand of the provincial government and installed water filtration plants in Badin. The relief agency has also provided emergency health kits, clean delivery kits, hygiene kits and aqua tablets for water purification. She said, "We have provided clean delivery kits in the camps and also provided more kits as the demand increases".
To a question, the spokesperson said that they have regular vaccination campaigns whereas WHO and Unicef are jointly working and are administering vaccination properly through the LHV programme. Besides, WHO has provided snakebite kits and dog bite vaccination to the District Health Departments. The WHO is supplying medicines as the cases are reported, she concluded.
