Speakers at an awareness seminar said the death toll reported from dengue virus was lower in Pakistan than other dengue-hit countries. The virus took the lives of only one percent of the total dengue patients while in other countries the virus takes lives of around five percent people of the total patients.
The seminar was organised by the Faculty of Sciences, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad. Faculty of Sciences Dean Professor Dr Muhammad Ashraf chaired the seminar while Social Security Hospital Medical Officer Dr Anjum Raza, Professor Dr Khalil-ur-Rehman and Professor Dr Muhammad Irshad were also present.
Professor Dr Muhammad Ashraf said that the death toll in the provincial capital has risen to 330 where around 33,000 people suffered from dengue virus. He said it affected between 50 and 100 million people in the tropical and subtropical areas each year. He said massive campaign against dengue by the Government of Punjab helped reduce mortality rate otherwise in the most of dengue-hit countries it is four times higher than us.
