Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar called on Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani in Lahore on Saturday and apprised him about the recently held regional conference and trilateral summit in Istanbul. Various other issues of national importance came under discussion on the occasion. Talking with the foreign minister, the premier said Pakistan is leading international efforts for durable peace in Afghanistan.
He said Pakistan favours an Afghan-led and Afghan-owned reconciliation process. It may be noted that Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar already consulted stakeholders on issues pertaining to foreign policy including resumption of Islamabad-New Delhi dialogue process and grant of most-favoured nation (MFN) status to India.
Moreover, talking to reporters Hina Rabbani Khar said that Islamabad wanted to live with its neighbours with peace and giving MFN status to India remained part of this policy. She said concrete approach of our foreign policy was to establish friendly relations with neighbours. She averred India had assured not to oppose giving market access to Pakistan in European markets.
Regarding her meeting with Afghan President Hamid Karazai during regional conference and trilateral summit in Istanbul she said it remained "positive." Hina Rabbani further said that trilateral summit among Pakistan‚ Turkey and Afghanistan in Istanbul will play important and constructive role in establishing peace and stability in the region. She said Pakistan has long government to government relations with Turkey, which will further be strengthened at people-to-people level.
