The honourable Mr Justice Jeremy Cooke, the presiding judge in the case of 'spot fixing' fraud, conspiracy and corruption in the game of cricket and involvement of 3 Pakistani cricketers, has won the hearts, minds and caught the imagination of most Pakistanis.
Justice Cooke has won the Pakistani hearts and minds because of his impeccable personal conduct, so abundantly, dispassionately and honourably presented during the proceedings of the case, by upholding the respect of the court, unflinching abidance to rule of law, sticking to the merit of the evidence, no rhetorical pronouncements and avoiding prolong adjournments to ensure timely dispensation of justice.
Justice Cooke, has caught our imagination, because, how much, we in Pakistan, where cases in courts linger on for decades without deliverance of verdict, desperately and passionately yearn for quick and timely dispensation of justice. One does not know how many times during his judicial tenure, Justice Sir Jeremy took notices and initiated 'suo motu' cases to fix price of daily consumable product or tried a woman airline passenger for carrying contraband item, but he certainly has conducted himself in the best traditions and demands of justice, as an astute, honourable, fair and impeccably responsible custodian of law and justice. Justice Cooke, embodies all the goodness associated with justice and personifies the unflinching firmness, the very essence of rule of law.
How desperately we Pakistanis need judges the likes of Honourable Justice Sir Jeremy Cooke for quick and timely dispensation of justice, without discrimination, strictly on the basis of merit, without legal manipulations, coercion and illegal gratification, in accordance with the rule of law !!
