CRBC project: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to take soft loans from World Bank, says Iftikhar

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government will take soft loan from World Bank (WB) to initiate Chashma Right Bank Canal (CRBC), a mega Public Sector Development Project (PSDP) for irrigation purpose in southern districts of the province. The government intends to execute the project worth of Rs 61 billion with assistance of World Bank, which is mega project and will take five-year its completion, said Mian Iftikhar Hussain.
While briefing media men after attending All Parties Conference (APC) regarding mega Hydle generation project here on Monday. All Parties Conference (APC) was held under Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister, Ameer Haider Hoti in the chair, in which he briefed the different political leaders about different hydel generation projects.
Mian Iftikhar said that the parties' leaders informed the Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani had already formed a committee to resolve issue. He added that the committee had failed to resolve the issue in its two meetings. He informed that the political parties' leaders have assured full co-operation and support in this regard. He said the issue would be resolved through negotiation, if not, then all political parties would devise a joint strategy for the right of the province.
The political jirga informed that the government is receiving net-hydel profit in installation due to financial constraints and other issue facing the country, he maintained. The provincial spokesman added that the federal government would inject whole amount in end of this year. He, however, said that there will financial problems for hydel generation projects in delaying of net-hydel profit money.
He said the mega hydel generation project of Lavi and Maltan would be initiated very soon, for which all political leaders visited to attend inaugural ceremony. Mian Iftikhar said the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government would initiate about 24 short and long-term hydle generation projects with capacity of 2100MW under its 2010-21 action plan in the province. He added that a sum of Rs 350 billion will be spent on the schemes.
He said the water discharge of Pathrain Hydle generation project would be Rs 42 paisa per unit under the federal hydro policy between Azad Jammu of Kashmir AJK and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governments. He maintained the Nepra had fixed Rs 6.3 cent tariff for the project, which will produce around 147MW electricity. The project will complete with US $238 million through which the province will earn Rs 145 million per annum.
About the Chashma Right Bank Canal project, he informed that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister, Ameer Haider Khan Hoti would hold a meeting with WB to take soft loan for the project. Earlier, speaking at the occasion, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Chief Minister, Ameer Haider Khan Hoti, said that the basic purpose of holding APC to get suggestions and guidance to continue the consistency and durability of the projects.
