A strong weather system in the Central Arabia Sea is expected to swirl towards the Oman coast in the next 24 to 36 hours, the Met Office said on Monday. In the fresh weather advisory-2, the forecaster says "yesterday's "Tropical Depression" (strong weather system) is now located at 15ºN & 60ºE, and likely to move towards Oman coast during next 24/36 hours".
A well-marked low-pressure area developed over the central parts of Arabian Sea and intensified into a "Depression" (strong weather system) on Sunday. The Met Office expects the weather system during its barrelling towards the Oman coast may not directly hit Pakistan's maritime belt directly. However, it is likely to cause widespread rain along Mekran coast from Tuesday to Wednesday.
"None of the coastal areas of Pakistan are likely to be direct hit by this strong weather system. However, under the influence of this weather system widespread rain heavy at times is expected along Mekran coast," it adds. It says scattered rain/thundershowers may occur in lower Sindh including Karachi and the flood affected areas on Wednesday and Thursday.
It advises the fishermen of Balochistan to avoid voyaging into open sea from Tuesday to Thursday because the sea conditions are likely to remain rough during the period. However, the fishermen of Sindh may continue their activities along/near the coast. Manager Fishermen Co-operative Society (FCS), Iqbal Mehar, citing the society's administrator, Saeed Khan Baloch, said the fishermen engaged in fishing near the Balochistan waters should return to the Karachi coast to avert any casualty.
