HIV/AIDS disease is rapidly spreading in Sindh as 104 more cases have been reported at various government run hospitals, Business Recorder learnt on Monday. According to a report compiled by Sindh AIDS Control Programme (SACP), 104 more patients of HIV/AIDS have been registered at different centers of Karachi, Hyderabad and Larkana from 1st July to 30th September 2011.
The report disclosed that 140 more patients of HIV/AIDS have died during these three months. The ratio of HIV patients is more than the patients of AIDS among 104 registered patients. With 104 cases, now the total figure of HIV/AIDS patients is 4325 throughout the province, said the report. Health experts are worried that HIV/AIDS is increasing on daily basis but the government is not interested in dealing with the diseases.
It is also pertinent to mention here that 153 HIV/AIDS patients had been registered during the first quarter of 2011, from 1st January to 31st of March. 146 male and four female patients were among those who had HIV positive, while three male people had the AIDS among the total figure of 153.
Similarly, 274 patients had been registered at various government-run-centers in second quarter from 1st April to 30th of June. Around 126 patients had died due to this chronic disease during these three months. According to the detail report, 582 HIV patients had been registered in 2003, while in 2004 the number was raised and reached at 988.
Similarly, in 2005 the toll reached 1229, in 2006 it had gone on 1670, in 2007 the figure reached at 1890, in 2008 the number became 2271, in 2009 it was the 3581 and in 2010 the number of HIV positive patients had been reached at 3581. The number of AIDS patients was also increasing with each passing day, in 2003 it was only 85, in 2004 it reached 102, in 2005 106, in 2006 108, in 2007 163, in 2008 168 and in 2009 it reached 192, said the report.
