Chandni Chowk Flyover: citizens urged to use alternate routes

City Traffic Officer, Senior Superintendent Police, Ghulam Abbas Tarar urged the citizens to use alternative routes instead of using Benazir Bhutto Hospital portion to sixth road area to reach their destination during the construction of Chandni Chowk Flyover.
He said that a comprehensive traffic plan has been formulated for the construction and work on it has been started, adding that co-operation of the citizens is necessary to avoid traffic mess mainly on Benazir Bhutto Road (Murree Road). Tarar informed that under the traffic plan, more than 115 traffic wardens are performing their duties to ensure smooth traffic flow particularly in the surrounding areas of the project. Work on the project would be completed within three months time for which all necessary arrangements regarding regular flow of traffic have been made by city traffic police, aimed at facilitating the people, mainly motorists.
The motorists should use route of Rehmanabad, Sadiqabad, Ali Nawaz Chowk, Rawal Road, Tippu Road via Rialto Chowk to Murree road to reach Rawalpindi from Islamabad. Similarly, those wanted to travel for Islamabad from Rawalpindi should use Murree Road, Committee Chowk underpass via Asghar Mall Chowk, Saidpur Road. He said that motorists might also use Airport Road and Peshawar Road to approach Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
The chief traffic officer said that about 73 percent traffic load of Benazir Bhutto Road would be diverted to alternative routes during the construction period. In order to ensure the smooth flow on other routes as well, all encroachments on various roads are being removed, he informed.
He apprised that special arrangements have also been made to control traffic jams in the city. Wrong parking of vehicles on the city roads is strictly being checked and negligence on part of traffic police officials would not be tolerated, he said. He urged the citizens to co-operate with traffic police so that all traffic related problems could be addressed properly. Under the traffic plan devised for the regular traffic flow, traffic police officers have been directed to take action against violators of traffic rules in accordance with the law.
