More than 200,000 people affected by torrential rains in Badin district and provided shelter in 414 relief camps have returned to their homes. Officials of the district told APP that relief camps at talukas Badin, Matli and Golarchi, respectively have been closed, however, 10 relief camps, including eight in taluka Tando Bago and two in taluka Talhar were still functional with 5,219 inmates.
The water has receded from most parts of the district, they said. With the festival of Eid ul Azha fast approaching the government machinery has expedited its efforts for rehabilitation of the rain sufferers in urban and rural areas of the district. In compliance to the instructions of President Asif Ali Zardari, 16 Nadra centres in the district have distributed more than 235,000 Pakistan Cards against which the affected people have started collecting Rs 10,000 each as the initial instalment of support money.
According to a senior official till date 150,000 people have collected an accumulative total of Rs 1.5 million through Pakistan Card. Life is returning to normalcy in the district is witnessed through rush of people in the rice market where the seasonal product has started arriving from different parts of the province. Moreover, rush of people is also seen in Eid Markets of Matli, Talhar, Kadhan, Tando Bago, Khoski and Golarchi.
