The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) has sought a written explanation from Sui-Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) and Sui-Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGC) on a complaint filed by All Pakistan CNG Association (APCNGA), well placed sources in Ogra revealed to this correspondent.
The two gas companies have been accused of illegally collecting an estimated Rs 18 billion from consumers by All Pakistan CNG Association in a letter to the Authority. The sources further revealed that the Authority in August approved an increase in gas tariff by 13.5 percent and directed both companies to charge new rates from the date of issuance of the notification. However, both the public sector gas utilities collected the raise effective from July. APCNGA accused gas utilities of violating the rules and regulations by collecting increased gas tariff one month prior to the notification. The Association has also provided an evidence to the Authority, officials added.
