Germany's January-November oil import bill up 25.3pc

FRANKFURT: Germany spent 29.2 billion euros ($35.14 billion) on crude oil imports in January to November 2017, a rise of 25.3 percent due to higher prices although volumes decreased by 0.6 percent, the BAFA foreign trade office's data showed.

Russia remained the top supplier with 37.2 percent of the total, down from 39.0 percent a year earlier.

The European Commission has called on European Union member states to diversify away from Russian energy.

British and Norwegian supplies accounted for 20.6 percent of the total, while 23.8 percent came from OPEC members in the period under review, BAFA said in a statement.

Germany imported oil from 30 named countries in the 11 months while small volumes came from unspecified sources.
