Turkey will always stand by Pakistan in its hour of need or whenever the Pakistani people call for Turkey's assistance. These sentiments were expressed by Turkish Consul General, Murat M. Onart at a simple ceremony to hand over an ambulance to Sindh government for use in the flood-affected areas. The ambulance has been donated by the Republic of Turkey through Tika (Turkish International Co-operation and Development Agency), and is equipped with the state of the art equipment.
The Turkish Consul General said that Turkey was keen to help Pakistan in the economic and development sectors and was exploring different avenues in this respect. He said that Tika had set up an office in Islamabad and introduced the Programme Co-ordinator Elif Turkislamoglu who gave more details about Tika.
The health ministry officials who received the ambulance on behalf of Sindh government, thanked the Turkish consul general and Tika programme co-ordinator and said Pakistan, Turkey ties were deep-rooted. The Turkish International Co-operation and Development Agency works directly under the Turkish Prime Minister's office.
The responsibility of Tika is to conduct project programmes pertaining to education, agriculture and other sectors that help enhance social development. Tika set up office in 2010 and immediately set about helping in flood relief efforts in Punjab and Sindh. In other welfare activities to date, Tika has helped to set up two schools in rural Punjab, two in Balochistan and is awaiting the Sindh government's response to set up two schools in Sindh.-PR
