The provincial government will spend a total of Rs 20 billion and 690 million on promotion of higher education during the next three years. The purpose of this investment is to produce best human resource for the country by improving the higher education sector.
This was stated by Chairman Punjab Education Foundation (PEF), Raja Anwar while addressing the annual function of a group of colleges at a local hotel on Monday. Addressing the function, Anwar said that higher education plays key role in providing trained and highly educated human resource to run different fields of life and this helps to achieve the goal of good governance, as well.
He said that Punjab Government is giving top priority to the promotion of quality education, adding that ample funds have been provided to the education sector so that it could be developed according to the needs of the changing times. Giving details of the developmental budget, Raja Anwar informed that besides providing a sum of Rs 6.5 billion during the current fiscal year, a total of Rs 14,190 million will be spent during the next two years on the promotion of higher education in the province.
During the current fiscal year, Rs 1263 million have been arranged for 187 developmental projects in the field of higher education, he added. PEF chairman maintained that introduction of IT in the higher education is the need of the hour. Realising this need, Punjab government is setting up specialised computer labs in the 28 colleges in the first phase. This will facilitate the students to keep abreast of latest challenges and global trends in the education.
The introduction of quality education in the higher education will ultimately help provide best economic managers and team leaders in different fields, he concluded. The function was also addressed by college's management and students. Students and their parents besides faculty members of the private group of colleges attended the function in large number.
