Speaker National Assembly and Patron of Women's Parliamentary Caucus (WPC) Dr Fehmida Mirza on Sunday termed the death of Begum Bhutto a huge loss for the nation.
In a message to the bereaved Bhutto family, Dr Fehmida Mirza expressed great shock and sorrow on her death, saying that it was not only a personal loss but also a loss for the people of Pakistan. She was a woman of substance and a woman of many graces. Her strong personality as a leader, as a mother and as a wife remained a motivating force and a source of strength not only for her family but also for the nation.
Terming the personality of Begum Bhutto as charismatic, dynamic, and dauntless, the Speaker recalled the relentless contributions of Begum Nusrat Bhutto for the country.
Since partition of the Sub-continent in 1947, when hordes of refugees started pouring into Pakistan, Begum Bhutto then Nusrat Khanum, engaged herself in relief operations as a young woman from the Women's National Guard, she added.
Her devotion and struggle for democracy and women of Pakistan despite all the challenges including losing the husband, two sons and a daughter stand as a beacon for all. She was an icon of women movement and her struggle for women rights and empowerment will always be remembered. WPC paid tribute to Begum Bhutto as the pride of Pakistan and specially women of Pakistan.
