The fear of becoming a target for attack has simply turned our political leaders into a bunch of petrified chickens who dare not venture out of their heavily fortified, barricaded and guarded homes.
The former Sindh home minister, Dr Zulfiqar Mirza, projects himself as "Sher-e-Sindh", (lion of Sindh) and a fearless man, who has declared many a time over the national TV that he is not scared of death and calls as his "Leila". Dr Mirza asserts that he is looking desperately for union with his 'Leila' and yearns for her. Ironically and funnily enough, Dr Mirza has made every possible arrangement to deny his 'Leila' to enter his fortified abode, for one entire side of a busy public road, Khayaban-e-Shaheen, the road to his house, has been blocked for commuters! So much for Dr Mirza's love for his beloved "Leila"!
This has prompted our 85-year-old Chief Minister, Syed Qaim Ali Shah, who spends more time 'grooming' his mustache and hair, or what is left of it, rather performing his assigned job to block the entire road from the Pearl Continental inter-section to the overhead bridge beyond Karachi Club to stay away from harm's way to lead a long and retired life, on perpetual furlough, at the expense of the impoverished population of the poverty-stricken province of the country.
