Missing persons' families: Supreme Court directs Interior Secretary to pay compensation till October 26

The apex court on Friday directed Interior Secretary to ensure payment of compensation to the families of missing persons till October 26. The Supreme Court (SC) gave five days to the Secretary Interior for payment of compensation to the families of missing persons, warning that he should to be ready for stern legal action if court orders were not complied with.
A two-member bench of the apex court comprising Justice Mian Shakirullah Jan and Justice Jawwad S. Khawaja was hearing identical petitions of missing persons. During the course of hearing, Interior Secretary Sadique Akbar prayed the court to give more time for payment of compensation to the families of missing persons.
Justice Jawwad S. Khawaja warned Secretary Interior that if the compensation to the heirs of missing persons was not materialised till October 26 then he should be ready to face action. On the occasion, Ali of Frontier Corps produced a missing person, Haroon Khan, before the bench and informed that he had already got his statement recorded earlier before the commission. The court adjourned further hearing till October 26.
