Rotary Pakistan has been actively involved in providing support to the education and literacy. Its main area of focus in the field of education is to work for the development of primary education and to also provide support for quality higher level education at world leading universities to those who cannot afford it.
Not only has Rotary enhanced the physical infrastructure of schools by providing a better, more learning friendly environment, Rotary also provides support to improve the academic standards through teachers training and by introducing new teaching methods. Rotary Club of Karachi Karsaz recently completed a programme to introduced the 'Concentrated Language Encounter' (CLE) method of teaching in 15 pilot schools in Malir Area of Karachi. CLE is a new method of teaching in which the children at the beginning years of their schooling are involved through a participatory learning process.
Wahab Lakhani a Rotarian from Pakistan obtained specialised training from Thailand and is the Master Trainer for this programme. Lakhani has organised special training sessions and has now trained more than 120 teachers from the 15 selected pilot schools. Faiz Kidwai, Regional Rotary Foundation Chair of Rotary International, informed that almost every club in Pakistan is actively involved in supporting education especially at primary school level and literacy at adult level.-PR
