Russia's August raw sugar imports fall

Published Updated

Russian raw sugar imports remained low in August at 90,400 tonnes, slightly up from July's 70,800 tonnes but significantly below 672,500 tonnes imported in June due to a higher import tariff, customs data showed on Monday. Russia increased its import tariff on raw sugar to $85 per tonne in July from $50 in June and from August, when the domestic sugar refining season started, the tariff was set at $140 per tonne.
The Federal Customs Service data also showed imports of tea from Russia rose, while imports of coffee and cocoa declined in the period from January to the end of August.
