Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) on Friday launched a crackdown against two religious organisations and demolished their two offices in Godhra. According to sources and eye-witnesses, police and Frontier Constabulary (FC) conducted joint operation on early Friday.
More than 400 security personnel of FC and police conducted raid at the offices of Sunni Tehreek and Ahle-Sunnat Wal Jamaat, formerly known as Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistan, in Godhra and confiscated literature and other material. The LEAs later bulldozed both the offices.
The entire area was cordoned off where nobody was allowed to go in or out during the operation. Heavy contingent of law enforcers was deployed at the area to avoid any untoward incident. Some resistance was witnessed as the inhabitants including women and children took to streets and staged a protest demonstration against the operation. Later, the law enforcers peacefully dispersed the protesters.
Sources said the law enforcers conducted door-to-door search in Godhra Camp but no arrest was made. SHO Ishtiaq Ghauri said that no arms and ammunitions were recovered during the operation while some literature was recovered which was taken into custody by FC. It may be mentioned here that the sectarian violence between Deoband and Barelvi school of thoughts in Godhra Camp has so far left over two dozen people including women and children killed in the current year.
