The Executive Committee of SITE Association of Industry (SAI) has rejected the increase in water tariff by Rs 215 per thousand gallons for industrial consumers from current month. The association held an exclusive meeting on Friday to review the increase in water tariff by KWSB from Rs 119 to 215 per thousand gallons effective from October 2011, a press release said.
The association rejected the new rates terming it grossly unjustified. The meeting was of the view that cost of production would go up with the increase which will make the local products uncompetitive. The meeting was attended by M Zubair Motiwala, Chairman SBOI and former chairman of SAI, Mohammad Irfan Moton, Chairman SAI, former Chairman Dr Arshad A Vohra, Senior Member Sikandar Imran and Chairman of APTMA (Sindh and Balochistan Zone) Arif Lakhani.
The committee was of the view that the increase does not correspond with tariff of other utilities like electricity, gas, petrol and diesel which is uniform in all the provinces. The meeting urged the industrialists not to pay their bill unless the decision is suitably revised. Mohammad Irfan Moton urged Sindh Governor Dr Ishrat-ul-Ibad and Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah to intervene to resolve the issue on urgent basis.-PR
