The government has written off loans worth Rs 1.095 billion during last year in Malakand, Swat, Buner and Chitral district through budgetary support under fiscal relief package announced by the Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Fata and Pata.
According to details submitted by the Ministry of Finance in the National Assembly on Friday, the government provided subsidy to write off Rs 11.86 billion agriculture loans, Rs 78.247 billion for corporate sector, Rs 422.839 million for SMEs, Rs 149,006 million microfinance loans and Rs 434.021 million other loans.
Agriculture loans worth Rs 11.086 million of 60 borrowers were written off by Habib Bank, Bank of Khyber and National Bank. The corporate loans amounting to Rs 78.242 million of 5 borrowers were written off by Faysal Bank, Bank Alfalah and HBL. Habib Bank, Bank of Khyber, MCB Bank, Bank Alfalah, Bank of Punjab, United Bank Limited, Meezan Bank Limited, National Bank Limited and Mybank Limited have written off Rs 422.839 million loans of 412 small and medium enterprises borrowers. Bank of Khyber, Khushhali Bank and the First Microfinance Bank Limited have written off Rs 149.006 million microfinance loans of 7,622 borrowers.
Among other loans, Soneri Bank written off Rs 909, 068, Habib Bank Limited Rs 6.011 million for 334 borrowers, NBP Rs 626,000 of three borrowers, Bank of Khyber Rs 65,706 million of 502 borrowers, Bank Alfalah Rs 11.178 million of 20 borrowers, Meezan Bank Rs 2.242 million of eight borrowers, NBP Rs 276.840 million for 4,196 borrowers and House Building Finance Corporation Rs 70.506 million of 287 borrowers. As many as Rs 1.095 billion loans were written-off of 13,456 borrowers in agriculture, corporate, SMEs, microfinance and other areas.
