The Society for the Protection of the Rights of the Child (SPRC) organised a two days' training programme for the focal persons who directly deal with the schools and children registered in Child Participation Programme.
This training is designed to help the adults develop a framework for understanding the concepts, theories and issues involved in working effectively with children. Being a Right-based organisation SPRC is seriously concerned about the protection of children working with adults.
So it also focuses on building the capacity of adults who supervise and co-ordinate the children's groups. The trainees are encouraged to understand the world of the child from a variety of theoretical and developmental perspectives and to develop strategies and techniques that enhance communication and counselling skills in dealing with children parliaments.
During the two days' training programme, knowledge on child participation, preparing children for participation, child rights club, effective communication, Children parliament, event management and conflict management are disseminated among the participants and give a chance to the participants to understand the aims of effective children participation and their role as well.
Speaking at the certificate distribution ceremony, Ms Yasmin Zia, Chair Person Provincial Assembly steering committee for Social Welfare Department, praised the SPRC efforts for the protection of the child rights and added that the present government is also keen to take initiatives to protect the basic human rights of the people of the province. She said that the provincial government is more focused on child rights, as evident from promulgation of Child Protection Welfare Act.
Ms Yasmin said that it is a major step towards the child rights and child protection. Under the Act Child Bureau at the district level will also be established. She said no doubt that education is the core responsibility of government; ANP government is giving top priority to education, because the education level is very low in our province, specifically in the girls' education and we are devoted to cope with the situation.
She revealed that the Provincial government has introduced a stipend system to the deserving girl students to reduce the drop-out rate. The provincial government has also increased the education budget for the first time in the history of the province, which none of the governments had done in the past, she added.
Education department is also eager to make changes in text and education methods. In KPK we are also paying attention on re-functioning of closed schools and those lacking with basic facilities. In KPK child needs more attention as a large number of children are working in hotels, workshops, prickling industries and also manipulated in terrorism.
