Intermittent heavy rain in Faisalabad on Friday claimed lives of two persons while over 2 dozen kachcha houses also collapsed in Faisalabad and its suburban areas including Kokian Wala, Chohla, Sadhar, Sher Singh Wala, Jhang Road Abadi, Thikriwala and Ghulam Muhammad Abad.
The rain continued for last 24 hours and caused serious traffic hazards in city areas where one to two feet deep rainwater was flowing on the roads. The slum areas of this populous industrial and commercial city have been inundated by rainwater where 2 to 3 feet deep water could be seen in the streets, and in some localities the rainwater even entered houses and caused damage.
Due to constant heavy downpour, even pucca houses' roofs in various localities of the City started leaking and thus damaged household articles. In Jhang Road Abadi, a housewife, Shakeela, was electrocuted to death when she tried to switch on the power button of the electric water pump, while a small girl also received fatal injuries due to sudden collapse of the house roof due to heavy rain.
The claims of the Wasa about improvement of drainage and sewerage system of the city were frustrated when this Agency bitterly failed in pumping out the rainwater from various localities, even from the city roads. However, heavy rain eased at about 4 pm but drizzling was still continuing as the sky remained fully clouded and people apprehended more rain at night time.
