A group of eight artists gather at Koel Gallery, Karachi to record their concerns regarding socio-political disorder of our country. The works of these artists is actually a reaction to the unnatural and immature behaviours of our society towards serious issues. Their abnormal attitude is creating disorder and unrest among the people who are loosing their 'purity of innocence', as said by R. M. Naeem, to the cruelty of the Abrbab-e-Ekhtayar.
All the participating artists tried to enhance positivism through cruelty of reality. It is time we realise who we really are. Our unrealistic approach to our collective problems is another factor in igniting the atmosphere of hatred and negative growth of young minds.
There is a need for an extra-ordinary sensible and conscious understanding of the current situation around us. And artists are trying to be part of that positive change one can sense the fear for future in the works of artists but they want to resist this fear slowly and gradually, inviting others to join them through their art. Everybody has to play their role because there is a long way in attaining order, to become extra-ordinary from ordinary and negative to positive. Bit by bit a change will occur but patience is the key. We must take control of ourselves. The black and white and colourful world of these artists attracts you to share your thoughts also with there's.
Meher Afroz's 'Khud Kalami', R. M. Naeem's 'Pakistan Today', Ali Azmat's 'Let a thousand flowers bloom', Saba Khan's 'High chair', Sana Arjumand's 'Pusli', are some of the works which truly depicts the current scenario of our society. Waseem Ahmed, Naveed Sadiq and Irfan Gul's works were also compelling.
All of the works convey a message of tolerance, need to create a strong bond between people and a relationship between their environment also. A friendly atmosphere gives birth to positive minds, calm souls and strong hearts. Therefore, it is need of the hour to join hands and be part of a positive change. Our country is going through disasters, unrest, insecurity and mismanagement and it is painful for all Pakistanis who love the homeland as they see a bleak future for the coming generations.
The interesting part of the exhibition is its title 'The Body in 6x3'. Each artist has to work on a canvas of size 6 inch x 3 inch regardless of which medium they use and execution of their choice except for one essential requirement that a human form must be part of their work. Also this exhibition is in memory of Ussman Ghauri (1969-2010) as it was his concept which he could not see executed.
The purpose of the show is to re-evaluate artist's viewpoints and discover their current engagement with the human body, the most especial tangible form which is much affected by the surrounding situations and the unsuitable ambience leave negative impact on it.
I personally feel that these artists tried to find the answers to the questions raised in so devastating situation and their canvases portrays how do they see, feel or react in all of these conditions. As the whole society is disturb so do the artists. But they are the sensitive segment of society hence react accordingly. They express intense reaction through their body of work. The children, the old, the young, the men and the women all are covered in this exhibition within 'The Body in 6x3'. The answers are hidden in their canvases one need an eye for it. [email protected]
