A blast ripped through a restaurant at a housing complex in the south-western Chinese megacity of Chongqing on Friday, injuring 29 people, two critically, state media reported. The blast happened at around 3:30 pm (0730 GMT) at the "007" restaurant in the Fengdu County area, a local official said, quoted by the official Xinhua news agency.
Xinhua said the injured were taken to hospital and the cause of the blast was being investigated. According to the Hualong website, a Chongqing-based Internet portal, following an initial probe police said the blast was caused by a leaking gas main in the residential block where the explosion took place.
Repair crews have been dispatched to the housing block and are repairing the gas pipelines in the building, it said. Although two of the 29 people injured were in critical condition, they were not in danger of losing their lives, the report said.
