Human Development Foundation (HDF), a registered NGO working in different areas of Pakistan, has initiated relief activities for the flood affectees in district Tando Mohammad Khan, Sindh. In the first phase, medical camps have been set up and mobile health teams are visiting different villages to treat people for various waterborne diseases, said a press release received here on Thursday.
Abdul Wahid, Regional Programme Manager HDF said, "There is nothing but water. Compared to last year's floods, this is no less than a tsunami. There is water everywhere; people have no access to dry land to even bury their dead." Within a few days of the current horrific situation in Sindh, HDF medical teams have visited 10 villages of Tando Mohammad Khan and treated more than 1,000 patients there.
Azhar Saleem, CEO HDF stated, "The most urgent need of the hour is to provide food and healthcare to the people. We have declared an emergency in our regional office and our teams are working round the clock to reach as many people as possible." He said there is a need to move very quickly to save precious human lives, urging the people to step forward and donate generously in cash and kind. More than five million people have been affected by the floods so far and the number of the dead has reached 233 mark. More than 18,000sq km of land has been submerged under water, which is roughly equivalent to half the size of Switzerland.-PR
