Dengue epidemic control: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government sets up Rs 55 million emergency fund

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has set up emergency fund of Rs 55 million for controlling possible outbreak of dengue fever in the province. After the alarming situation in Punjab, KP has set up emergency fund for controlling of the menace in the province.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Secretary Ghulam Dastgir formally sanctioned the fund during an emergency meeting here on Wednesday. Beside Additional Chief Secretary Attaullah Khan, Secretary Health Captain Munir Azam Khan (Retd), Secretary Finance Sahibzada Muhammad Saeed, Secretary Home Azam Khan, Director General PDMA Shakil Qadar, Director General Health, representatives of the Unicef and other high ranking officers of concerned departments also attended the meeting.
Chief Secretary Ghulam Dastgir said so far the situation is under control in the province. However, he said after the growing cases in different districts of Punjab, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has taken pre-emptive measures in order to tackle with outbreak.
He directed the health department to take every possible measure in this respect and start spending the money approved for this purpose. The Chief Secretary stressed the need to spend money on quality medicine, insecticide, creating awareness among people and other necessary goods.
Earlier, Secretary and Director General Health gave a detailed briefing on the occasion, saying that steps are being taken to control any alarming situation in the province. They said about three dengue patients had died in the province, after contracting the virus from Punjab, adding that the deceased belonged to Nowshera, Haripur and Mansehra districts. The meeting was told that as many as 112 cases have been reported in the province of which 38 cases were tested positive.
