The Country Manager of ACER Middle East Computer Company, Grigory Nizovsky called on Punjab Chief Minister, Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, here Saturday. The proposal of provision of one lakh (0.1 million) laptops to the talented students of the province was discussed during the meeting.
Speaking on the occasion, Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif said that promotion of information technology for providing best services to the people and rapid development is utmost essential and Punjab government is implementing a comprehensive programme for this purpose. He said that promotion of education and equipping the young generation with modern knowledge is their top priority and all possible steps are being taken in this regard.
He said that the project of setting up IT labs at a cost of rupees five billion in more than four thousand schools of the province has been completed and male and female students of the province are benefiting from it. He said that a programme of providing one lakh (0.1 million) laptops to the talented students of the province has been evolved. He said that government is marching forward towards setting up e-government in the province and use of information technology in all departments is being promoted for the purpose.
The CM said that the company providing computers should provide all other facilities in addition to after-sale servicing and also set up its unit here. Expressing his views, Grigory Nizovsky said that ACER Computer Company has provided assistance for setting up IT labs in Punjab and now it is also interested in the programme of providing laptop to the male and female students.
He said that efforts and steps of Chief Minister Punjab, Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif with regard to promotion of information technology in the province are commendable. Mark Prosser of ACER Computer Company, Zahid Mehmood and Chairman Planning & Development and Project Director Laptop Project, Javed Aslam were also present on the occasion.
