Kitchen gardening promotion project: sale of eight vegetables seed to continue till October
Sale of eight vegetables seed of winter season under the 'Kitchen Gardening' promotion project of the Punjab government will continue till October, 2011. This was stated by the Executive District Officer Agriculture (Extension) Syed Muhammad Zakriya Shah while speaking at a seminar arranged by the Punjab Agriculture Extension wing arranged at the Institute of Agriculture Sciences of the Punjab University here on Saturday.
He said that packets of eight vegetables are being sold at the rate of Rs 50 per pack. He said that women and educational institution could play an important role in making the Chief Minister's 'kitchen gardening promotion project' a success as students and housewives could grow vegetables in their leisure time and also reduce their kitchen expenses.
Syed Zakriya Shah threw light on the need, importance and promotion of kitchen gardening programme and steps taken by the government in this regard. Deputy District Officer Agriculture (Extension) Rao Muhammad Anwar replied to the questions raised by the participants of the seminar.
Chairman of the Institute of Agriculture Sciences Dr Saleem Haider appreciated the performance of the Punjab Agriculture Department and assured his help in making kitchen gardening project a success. A stall of the vegetable seed packets was also set on this occasion from where participants of the seminar purchased seed packets and literature about kitchen gardening.
