Karachi situation: Parliament should be taken into confidence, says Nawaz

The head of Pakistan Muslim League (N) Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif offered co-operation of his party to those who wanted peace and tranquillity in Pakistan in general and Karachi in particular adding that the parliament should be taken into confidence on Karachi issue.
The PML (N) Chief expressed these views while talking to a group of media persons here at the Circuit House after returning from Nawabshah late Saturday evening. He was of the view that some forces wanted to make Karachi hostage and the entire nation is worried about unrest in Karachi.
The PML (N) sacrificed its provincial government as the price for peace in Karachi in the past, he said and added that false propaganda is being carried out in the name of 1992 operation. Now the nation, however, is realising the importance of that action for bringing peace to Karachi, the PML(N) Chief said. The nation is fully aware of the forces involved in creating disturbances in Karachi, he remarked adding that action against those involved in brutality must be taken without any discrimination or affiliation.
Responding to a question, the PML(N) Chief maintained that institutions like PIA, Railways and Steel Mills are on way of destruction and there is need to save these organisations in order to bring foreign investment and to overcome the threat of unemployment. About allegations, levelled by MQM Chief Altaf Hussain on PML(N) about display of lethal weapons, Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif said these allegations are baseless adding that every one is aware of who is doing what.
Replying to a question about his visit to Nawabshah, the PML (N) Chief said that he came to Nawabshah on the invitation of President Asif Ali Zardari and the reason of his late arrival there was only that he wanted that first the President may review the flood situation then he will visit the area next. "We all should work for the interests of the country," he said.
He reminded that during last year's flood, he held meeting with Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani and offered him joint efforts for the rehabilitation of flood-affected people with the country's own resources but, unfortunately, the offer was not implemented, he maintained. Due to heavy rainfall, the situation in the province is critical as the affected persons are living without any roof and the rainwater has also caused damages to their houses and standing crops.
The affected people should get compensation amount of at least 0.1 million, the PML(N) Chief suggested. He said that the Punjab Government has extended its co-operation to the Sindh Government and besides dispatching relief goods, the medics and paramedics along with required medicines have also arrived in flood-affected areas of Sindh to contribute towards rescue and relief work.
