Jamaat-e-Islami chief, Syed Munawar Hasan, has strongly condemned the fresh raise in the power tariff and termed it totally unjustified. He said that rupees 2.04 per unit increase in the power tariff is unbearable for the masses and would result in a flood of price rise. He pointed out that the monthly raise in power tariff and gas, POL rates are among the IMF conditions for loans and the rulers are blindly doing that, adding to the plight of the man in the street.
He said that according to reports, government has obtained foreign loans of 20 billion dollars, which is something unprecedented. It is evident, he added, that all this money is going into the bank accounts of rulers or wasted on their luxuries as no major development project is in hand at the moment.
The JI chief noted that PPP coming into power on the rosy slogans of 'Roti, Kapra and Makan' has left the people as paupers and the masses do not know whom they should approach for solace. He was hopeful that the people would be wise enough not to vote the plunderers and corrupt politicians and would elect honest and patriotic people next time for bringing about a change.
