Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund (PPAF) has allocated rupees 258 million and started relief operations to help 400,000 displaced individuals, badly ravaged by the raging rainwater, in 14 union councils of district Badin.
Through its partner organisations namely Badin Rural Development Society (BRDS), National Rural Support Programme (NRSP) and Health and Nutrition Development Society (HANDS), PPAF has started providing dry ration packs containing flour, rice, cooking oil, sugar, pulses, etc to the flood affectees. Hygiene kits containing buckets, jerry cans, soap, and other things are also being provided to the affected-families in the above mentioned union councils.
In order to provide healthcare services and preventing outbreak of water-borne diseases among the affectees, PPAF has started organising mobile medical camps in said UCs, with medical teams catering to the healthcare needs of the affectees. On the completion of the relief phase, PPAF will start working on early recovery, reconstruction and rehabilitation and mitigation and preparedness phases of disaster management in Sindh coast, as in other areas of Pakistan. PPAF is already executing multi-pronged Rs 2.6 billion Sindh Coastal Area Development (SCAD) programme in Sindh, with allocation of over 65 percent of its resources to districts of Badin and Thatta.-PR
