National Assembly special committee on law, order in Karachi, Quetta: Subcommittee prepares draft ToRs

The sub-committee of the Special Committee on Law and Order situation in Karachi and Quetta has drafted the Terms of References (ToRs) for an independent review committee to probe into the never-ending targeted killings in Karachi and deteriorating law and order situation in restive Balochistan province.
The two-member special committee comprising Federal Minister for Professional and Technical Training Riaz Hussain Pirzada of the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) and Zahid Hamid of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), was formed by federal minister for religious affairs Syed Khurshid Shah to finalise the ToRs.
Talking to Business Recorder after the meeting, Zahid Hamid said that the sub-committee in its first meeting has drafted ToRs and sent them to the National Assembly's special committee on Law and order situation in Karachi and Quetta for final approval.
He said that the committee, of which, he is a member, that is looking into the wave of target killings in Karachi and worsening law and order situation in Quetta will finalize a strong draft that will work for the eradication of deteriorating law and order situation in the financial hub of the country and restive Balochistan province.
"We have discussed the ToRs in details, which will be finalised by the parliamentary committee, headed by Khurshid Shah....We have tried our level best to come up with the best possible ToRs to cope the security situation in Balochistan and Karachi with the goal to permanently bring peace," he maintained.
He went on saying that all the members of the committee were hell-bent to find a long lasting solution to the security problems, which has paralysed the economy and day-to-day business of the country, besides it is a looming danger to the federation. When asked about the timeframe for finalisation of the draft, Zahid said that it would take some days to deliberate upon various aspects of the proposed ToRs before giving the final recommendations.
He said the ToR is broadly based on the nature of crimes being committed in Karachi and Balochistan; causes of these fatalities and hatred including other factors taking the mega city [Karachi] and Balochistan province at the bring of disaster.
The ToRs also contains the mechanism to monitor the situation for achieving the goal of lasting peace, he said, adding that the people of Karachi and Balochistan have many a complaints against the federation as the promises made earlier for peace and economic development were not fulfilled.
